Twayn
Rhythm guitarist and band leader Twayn – originally from Missouri – has been playing guitar since he was 6 years old and wrote his first song at 12. He went to college at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and has 2 degrees in music: Composition and Classical Guitar Performance. Since graduation — relocating to Portland just a few years later — he has played in a wide variety of bands and projects ranging from classical to jazz to avante-garde to rock to pop to who-knows-what.
Exclusively studying and playing swing and gypsy jazz for the past few years, he formed the Jenny Finn Orchestra to explore the great vocal swing music of the 1920′s / 30′s.
Past projects include BCR (world-beat), The Rose Mahlers (straight ahead jazz), The Darsan Trio (avante-garde jazz), Sophe Lux (prog pop), Sophia Nox (opera metal), etc. Current projects — besides the JFO — include The Blue Drag Quartette (gypsy jazz) as well as being a hired gun for Rose City Hot Club (gypsy jazz) amongst others.
Twayn can also be seen playing around town at various gypsy jazz jam sessions.
